So, you’ve got multiple ear piercings and you’re feeling like they’re not quite styled just right. This means you’re ready to dive headfirst into the wonderful world of ear curation — because, yes, that’s what we’re calling it now. It’s art. It’s a lifestyle. And you’re obviously here because you want to know how to properly style multiple ear piercings. Don’t worry, I’ve got you. And know that you can always book a virtual or in person styling consultation with us and we will do all the work for you!
1. Know Your Ear Real Estate
First things first, let’s survey the area. Whether you have two piercings or twenty (looking like Swiss cheese haha!), it’s time to take inventory. Ear lobes, tragus, helix, daith… yeah, there’s a lot going on, so make sure you actually know where everything is and what inventory you have before you start slapping studs and hoops all over the place. We like to use these cheap silicone ears you can purchase on Amazon to lay everything out in a cohesive way before we start installing the pieces. Even though it won’t match your exact anatomy, it’s much easier to move things around in those ears first before you begin the dreaded install! You can also add any future piercings you may be thinking about getting without having to go under the needle.
2. Mix Metals
Gone are the days where all your earrings had to be all gold, or silver, or rose gold, or whatever. We live in a world where you can literally mix all of them and end up with a styling that looks chic and not confused - that is if you do it right. Check out this styling we did mixing silver and gold! Just make sure your overall style doesn’t scream “I raided a jewelry clearance bin.” Clean and polish any dull pieces to bring out their brilliance and make sure to include some of each mental type on both ears to balance out the look. You can even use a certain gemstone or gem colour between the ears to tie everything together.
3. Size (and Shape) Matters
When it comes to multiple piercings, balance is key. Please, for the love of ear-scaping, avoid turning your ear into a wall of giant hoops (unless of course, that’s your thing). Mixing different sizes and shapes will keep things interesting and prevent you from looking like a coiled binder. Start small at the top (hello, tiny studs) and work your way down to slightly larger pieces near your lobes. Focus on your anatomy to let that drive which jewelry shapes will fit best into a certain area. This will also help with the comfort and health of your piercings. For example, pieces like these that have curves are best for areas like the helix, mid-helix and conch whereas they wouldn’t be great in the lobes - they won’t be anchored in place as easily.
4. Add a Statement Piece
You can, and should, have a star of the show. Whether it’s a bold ear cuff, an ornate hoop, or an ultra-long threader that kisses your shoulder, let one piece have its moment. Let the other pieces complement the statement piece. When I’m doing a styling I like to start with the statement piece and work back from there.
