Gold jewellery can add charm and glamour to any fit! However, solid gold jewellery pieces can be very expensive. A simple solution for this problem is gold plated or vermeil finish jewellery. Since it is very difficult to distinguish between real gold and plated gold, plated gold is an affordable way to accessorize a chic outfit.
At Curated Lobe, our pieces have a vermeil finish, which means our earrings have sterling silver as its base material. Sterling silver is an alloy. It is made of 93% pure silver and 7% other materials and it is frequently used in high quality jewelry. Also, it means that it can be plated in gold, silver or rose gold. Vermeil is the best quality of jewellery that you could purchase, on a budget.
Seeing as our earrings are made with demi-fine material, it is important to care for them properly! This way, we can maintain their shine and durability. Here are a few tips and tricks to care for our plated jewellery;
Wash Your Hands Before Handling Plated Jewellery
Before putting on our thread, hoop, cuff, huggie or stud earrings, be sure to wash your hands and ensure they are dry, because our hands carry a lot of dirt which can tarnish your earrings.
Don't Use Perfume
Do not spray perfume or other sprays on your skin while wearing your earrings. A tip from us; before putting on your earrings, spray perfume in the air and walk through the mist. This will allow your perfume scent to not be as strong and your skin will absorb the moisture faster.
Lotions & Creams
For lotions and creams, wait until it is absorbed into the skin before putting on your vermeil earrings. Moisturizing in the morning can be a hassle, because we are running on a faster pace. So, what we have found useful is placing your lotion next to your jewellery, so you will not forget to moisturize before putting on your earrings.
Don't Sleep or Exercise with Earrings on!
Never sleep with your earrings on! This is very crucial, because our ear lobes need to breathe, and the jewellery will tarnish if it is not cleaned every night. A good way to clean your earrings is by using a cotton pad and a drop of liquid soap to lightly swipe all the dirt build-up of the day. When exercising, also be sure to remove your plated jewellery, because an abundance of sweat can tarnish the plating over time.
Water is NOT your Friend
Vermeil is a very durable plating due to its thickness, but to maintain its shine avoid wearing our jewellery while in water (like swimming or taking a shower).
Plated Jewellery Storage & Care
When you are not wearing your Cured Lobe earrings, place them in a box or soft cloth, to avoid scratching.
These simple steps will prolong the lifetime of your earrings and they will continue to shine for years to come! We hope you enjoyed our newest blog. If you're looking to up your style with some vermeil jewellery of your own, click here!
